Trance Patterns: Mike McLain
April 1 – April 30, Online Exclusive on Artsy
McLain's primary program uses commercially produced fabric patterns and acrylic paint. He combines found fabric patterns and imposes his own marks on the surface to create a total abstraction. The final image results not from the design choices made ,but the systematic positioning of color within designated areas. The work pushers visual cues to create an optical buzz or trance like patterns.
Mike received his MFA from Claremont Graduate University in 2010, lives & works in Southern California.
