Julie Weiman: Full Tilt
Julie Weiman: Full Tilt
On view: January 1 - January 31, 2022 on Artsy
Presented by Asher Grey Gallery
Julie Weiman’s current series of drawings are abstract, and her inspiration is grounded in the landscape, specifically the Mojave Desert of Southern California. “I count the desert as my muse- the light, the mountains, the rocks, the wind, the air, the rain. And while these drawings are not renderings, I am greatly influenced by what is around me. Sometimes, making this work is like a giant puzzle- how does one shape fit into another? How does this mark work? What color is right at this moment? What does a storm feel like? How does this layering in some way relate to the world as I perceive it? And how do I keep the energy flowing so that what you, the viewer connects to, is the image but also the absolute beauty of this place?”
Throughout her process, Julie uses a range of mediums including inks, rust, graphite, soil, pencil, pastel, spray paint, and acrylic. “I am an excruciatingly slow painter. On the other hand, drawing for me is a fast and thrilling thing. I love the dance of mark making. It is one of my greatest pleasures -my insubordinate hand going full tilt.”
Julie Weiman is an artist who lives in Palm Springs and Boston. Julie has shown her work at Asher Grey Gallery, BoxoPROJECTS, CVAC (Coachella Valley Arts Center), Merchant Gallery, Bromfield Gallery, Tenderfoot Projects, Curry College, and Wheelock College.
