BARBARA SPILLER: TRAVELING
October 1 -31, 2019 | Online Exclusive on Artsy
The meander of rivers and streams; the dance of light on water; chance arrangements of the growing and the fallen on the desert floor; the hardened history of rocks; the patterns and juxtapositions of the physical world as they naturally occur. These are the observed phenomena that have inspired and inhabited Barbara Spiller’s work.
In her most recent encaustic works on paper, Spiller uses a simplified visual vocabulary of trails and markers, suggesting the way things move, seeking connection; movements that occur within the brain and body, as well as in the external world of travels and places where sometimes, footprints are left behind as witness.
