Bruce Murphy: Architectural Abstractions
February 1- 28, 2023 on Artsy
Asher Grey Gallery
Texas native Bruce Murphy exhibits a new series of paintings at Asher Grey Gallery using his preferred materials of enamel paint and various metallic powders. Murphy's abstract architectural landscapes are compositions created in deep layers of colors and shine under a grid of straight, measured lines that pierce through expansive color schemes with a specificity of Agnes Martin. Regardless of a perceived structure, Murphy reflects, "I don't think whenever I paint, there is nothing going on in my mind from the past. I am completely in the moment, having fun. I only think about the painting once it is finished."
Bruce Murphy was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. He moved to Manhattan to obtain a BFA in painting from the Parson's School of Design. After a long career in graphic design, he now lives in Rhinecliff, NY and is devoted to painting full-time.
