Beyond Duality
Beyond Duality: works by Hiroko Momii
On view: July 1- 31, 2021 on Artsy
Artist’s Statement:
Humans tend to experience life, existence, as a duality: night/day, male/female, past/future, good/bad, separation/unity, love/hate, etc. Once we observe nature, I feel duality is the human mind's name for physical reality. My quest to live through painting is to go beyond duality and to experience the space beyond duality. Interconnectedness. Oneness of life.
Painting is the act of meditation for me, reaching the deepest space where I can experience past as present and channel information from above. I have loved nature since childhood. Nature is the space where I have experienced interconnectedness even though I have suffered a sense of alienation from human society. As I grow through painting, I have expanded my consciousness to heal my perception of alienation and transcend the sense of duality. This period of my painting shows geometric triangle shapes created by connecting each dot to start organic movement and shapes. Through this process, I feel my consciousness is expanding to Oneness.--
